Update on our Budgie, Cloude and Testicular Cancer

February 8, 2012
male budgie
Remember before how I was talking about when submissive male budgies were around alot of other male budgies, figting over the affections of other males, that their cere's could turn brown - to show the other budgies they weren't a threat? Well, I did notice that the other male budgies were picking on Cloude and he would always fly away. We call the other male budgies "The Bad Boys" - because they are brats. Well, I started keeping Cloude in his cage when it was time for the boys to be out and let him come out for flight time with the girls. He was hitting on Skye some, his old budgie mate but as she is getting pretty old - she didn't pay him much mind. Over a few weeks, his cere changed from brown to the old bright blue from his younger days! He molted and is now in perfect feather and he looks great! He and Skye did get it on briefly, just once - so now Skye and Cloude take turns coming out when it's girl flight time. I was thinking that if he did have a tumor, that the higher testosterone flow from being out with the girls might help make the tumor smaller - because I had read of a vet doing an experimental treatment where they would inject the budgie or the tumor with testosterone and this helped to shrink the tumor. Either way - our little Cloude seems to be doing much better! I am so glad!

Budgie Testicular Cancer

January 8, 2012
male budgie with brown cere
Cloude is the blue male budgie - with brown cere
Our budgie, Cloude (the cute blue budgie in the header above, just got back from the vet. His cagemate had died and we wanted to be sure that he was ok. In the past year his cere has turned from the lovely blue you see above to a dark brown - like a female budgie has. The vet is worried that this might be a sign of testicular cancer. They also think that testicular cancer is what his cagemate may have died from - as they were around the right age for it. Cloude is around 8 years old now, I think. We hope that he does not have cancer. We have read that sometimes if a male budgie is around many other male budgies that tend to fight over a few females, a submissive male budgie's cere will turn brown - to show the other male budgies that he is not a threat. Please pray for our little Cloude that he will have many, many more happy years to fly around with his friends and give us kisses and sing many more budgie burble tunes. We love our Cloudy-Cloude!
You can see his cere in this cute video of him burbling and chatting with a faux tree.
