We were dressed and ready to go out for the New Years Eve Party. We turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard.
We phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house.
The cat we put out in the yard, scoots back into the house. We didn't want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to eat the bird.
My wife goes out to the taxi, while I went inside to get the cat. The cat runs upstairs, with me in hot pursuit. Waiting in the cab, my wife doesn't want the driver to know that the house will be empty for the night. So, she explains to the taxi driver that I will be out soon, 'He's just going upstairs to say Goodbye to my mother.'
A few minutes later, I get into the cab. 'Sorry I took so long,' I said, as we drove away. 'That stupid ***** was hiding under the bed. I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out!
She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then, I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her fat ass downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!'
The cab driver hit a parked car.
I was wondering if any one might help me out im not sure if my parakeet is a male or female and would like to find a good name for like both name so its not a boy or a girl in the middle any one have any ideas. its yellow head and green mixed very nice bird
Hello ,
Recently I acquired a parakeet (budgie?) from a relative, it was actually a friend of their's, but they moved away and gave it away. I had a few questions. I am getting the parakeet used to me, by sitting next to her and putting my hand in the cage. I even fed her a piece of apple a few times. I was wondering if, eventually, I took her out, (another thing I am not sure of is if her wings are clipped), would she just fly around in my house endlessly, or eventually come back down to her cage.
Also, does parakeet feces stain? :P
One more thing, she is very quiet at certain times, at others she won't stop talking and whistling away.
But she is quiet a lot more. Will she become more open once she becomes more used to me and her new environment?
parakeets???

I'm going to get some birds. I'll most likely get a pair of males. I've done research on both Budgies and Lovebirds, and I'm torn. I want an affectionate, funny bird. I know that Lovebirds can be very affectionate, but so can Parakeets. I also know that Lovies can be a bit destructive and clingy, but Parakeets can be less friendly at times. Don't Parakeets require less work? My Mom has had Lovebirds, and she adored them. Please tell me which one you prefer, and why. If you can avoid it, please don't tell me they're both great. I want a clear answer. I will ask the people I'm buying from their opinions, as well.
Thanks!
Would the parakeet rather have someone it's familiar with clip it or what? Please help me! :)
My dad got me a bird since I'm a big animal lover. I have many pets but never a bird. Ive researched online and from what I concluded, she is a quaker parakeet. But im not sure I could be wrong. I took a picture of her, and im hopeing you all can help me out. I have an appointment with the vet so maybe he can help me too. But for now, shes green with yellow on her head and red around her beak area. She also has a blue tail (feathers) and fours toes, two that point forward and two backward. So far I love her! Im here with her all day. She seemed a bit frightened at first but shes warming up to me. Also, is it ok if I take her outside everyday? If so, for how long?
I would appreciate some information or help.
And please dont be rude and say I shouldnt have a bird in the first because I am very capable of caring for a bird!
THANKS!

My grandmother has had two parakeets for a few years now, and they seem to get along great. They will have their spats every once in awhile but other than that they're good. Anyways, I noticed today one of them is a lot skinnier than the other and the feathers on its stomach are gone in patches. I'm wondering what might be wrong with him, and what I should do. Thanks in advance.

How can i tell if its a female/male??
also, should I buy another parakeet so this one doesn't get lonely??

I started to handfeed 2 parakeets when the parents flew away. They are about to have all of their feathers and 1 of them used to eat so well but now he refuses to eat. He will not eat seed we had started them on millit and he eats just a little bit of that. I am thinking of puting him in a parakeet nesting box with the other birds his age are with the parents feeding it. What should i do? put in the box? or what action and if u know i would like to know what has too?
I've just installed a plastic nest box in the cage. My two parakeets are adults and well bonded. How long will it be before the female starts going inside and they mate? I filled the nest box with bits of shredded paper towel and newspaper. Please Answer and tell other people.
I have a Princess of Wales Parakeet and he is wearing a purple band on his right leg that says 281 AAC 01 S
The AAC 01 S is written vertical.
What does it mean?
It's just a dangling Cylinder they can sit on..but it's hanging from a stick they like to sit on...would they just chew up the string and choke?
how do u know if the female parakeet is pregant
I have two parakeets, and am going to get a cockatiel soon. I would really like to train the new bird, and be able to have fun with it. But I am a little worried that once it see's the other birds, it will forget about me completly. Any advice about how to do this successfuly?
To start off; I bought two baby parakeets about 6 days ago. They are very used to my hand being inside the cage, and i can take them out somewhat easily. I always talk to them, and pet/kiss them. I have one going up a 9 step ladder, and the other just stops half way. I need these 3questions answered if someone can please help: 1. After about 2 min. of training they stop working and just want to go in the cage that is all they way accross the room to the other chirping parakeet; what do i do? 2. Whenever they are together outside the cage, since their wings are clipped, they just run all over the place. It must take me at least 5 min. to run around on my knees trying to get these two birds saying " aww come onn guyss.. im going to get your tails if you dont stop runningg." in the happiest voice i could throw out. 3. I tried buying millet spray, and these little yogo things as treats while training, but they dont ever eat them. I need them fully trained by august so i need alot of help.
i see alot of pictures with cockatiels and parakeets in the same cage, but my mother says that the cockatiels will attack the parakeets. is this true?
I am looking for a young parakeet that has been hand raised
I just got another parakeet,
I put Pearl in a seperate cage then my male Kiwi, until she gets used to the home. She keeps opening and shutting her beak like shes biting the air or gasping for air...I'm not sure
if shes sick or depressed or what?
Any answers?

someone please help!!!
my parakeet's beek is like thining out at about 3/4 cm from tip and up and the sides are getting straight cracks in them. Is this a disease or mal nutriation?
The female parakeet is 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 months older than the male parakeet. Does this create any problems? What do I do to get them into the breeding "mode"? I know for sure they like each other because they touch beaks and get their heads scratched by each other. I just put in the nest box, how long will it take before they mate and lay eggs? Please Answer and tell other people about this question.
I was wondering if i should get him another parakeet i dont really know how old he is :P. he's in a 19(h) 18 (L) 14(d) cage roughly.
i have three parakeets and two of them have coupled themselves together leaving one alone most of the time Do i need to get another bird so it won't be lonely? It doesn't really like me that much
My parakeet, since the time I got her, which was like a year ago has always has this part on her where if you look under the feathers is red and looks like dried blood. I'm worried that she was injured and possibly keeps reopening a wound or something. When I let her out to fly, flying looks like it hurts her sometimes. And when she's wet you can clearly see on both wings at the top parts, it looks red but only that part. I'm confused what's going on. I've been breeding parakeets for more than 5 years now and haven't seen something like this before, except I bought two new parakeets yesterday and the older one of the two sort of has the same thing. Does anyone have any idea what that is or what the problem is?
My parakeet has a pink w/ small white spotted big mole type thing at the start of its tail. I noticed this a while back and thought that it was the place where the guy... you know rubs & stuff... But my bird has been playing with it often these days, while she's preening herself. And it has GROWN. Also, there is nothing wrong with her, and she is healthy. I'm just worried because alot of budgies die of tumors.
Does anyone know what might be wrong with her?
WAIT WHAT? is it spreadable or something? I mean my parents do not let me go to the vet, they say that the bird is fine. But really worried.
the due date for my eggs[Pekin Ducks] are July the 28th.
I have 4 eggs.
they are inan incubator.
I found a Northern Mocking bird egg...and I put it in the incubator...Well, I didn't find it...but the construction workers knocked down a tree...and there were 2 eggs in a nest that was knocked down...but one cracked..and I have decided to take in the egg.
Birds I have:
4 parakeets.
1 parrott
2 love birds
17 finches
4 duck eggs[Pekin Ducks]
9 Canadian Geese
1 young Male I found as a naked baby with it's eyes closed, and I have managed to save
and this egg I just saved today.
DONOT TELL ME TO TAKE IT TO A WILDLIFE PLACE BECAUSE I ALREADY CALLED AND THEY SAID TO JUST KEEP IT IN THE INCUBATOR. AND I CALLED VETS, SHELTERS...EVERYTHING!!!! THEY ALL TOLD ME THE SAME THING:
"There is nothing we can do, just keep it in the incubator."
So when it hatches..I will keep it in the incubator...and feed it every 4 hours
and I will feed it mushed berries and dog food. Any advice?

today my parakeet danielle was rolling and laying on her back at the bottom of the cage and then she was kissing another parakeet in the cage. is she in heat? or is she going to lay eggs? i can't go to a vet,he lives to far away.help!
I rescued and adopted three parakeets and a cockatiel after they were abandoned in the hot street by their prior owners. They were wrapped up in a black sweater and were pretty much left to die in searing hot 100 degree weather.
I noticed that the female parakeet (who I named Sky) had poop stained on her butt. Her feathers had actually matted together, and unlike the other two males - she was the only one with this problem. I tried to Google it, to try and find out what it was... but I couldn't find any information.
I'm thinking it's just lack of a proper diet and poor nutrition that has just caused her stool to become really loose and gross; in which case has stained and ruined her butt feathers. I tried cleaning her with a baby wipe yesterday, but it still looks kind of gross.
Could I get opinions to what it might be and recommendation to make her better and make her feathers puffy and healthy again?
